NOTES ON THE LANGUAGE OF LIBRETTO OF "BAN LEGET" BY IVAN DEŽMAN

Abstract

In the literary work of Ivan Dežman there is also a libretto published in 1872. It is "Ban Leget" which was taken as a model by Ivan Zajc for composing his less known opera, performed in Zagreb in the same year. The work analyses deviations from the languages standards (especially syntactic ones) in the drama text, determined by rhythm, rhyme etc., but also by a special request of a libretto - necessity that the performance be sung.
