This article explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing decision-making processes related to the air defense (AD) of national critical infrastructure (NCI). Methodologically, to test the stated hypothesis and to examine the applicability of AI systems within existing governance and defense structures, the article employs a qualitative analytical approach based on comparative analysis and review of relevant policy documents, doctrinal sources, and academic literature. The article also addresses the challenges posed by contemporary aerial threats, including the weaponization of civilian platforms, and drone proliferation, outlying the need for adaptive governance mechanisms. Furthermore, it discusses the importance of incorporating AI-assisted decision-support systems within national and institutional frameworks to enhance coordination between civilian and military actors. The findings suggest a governance-oriented approach to AI in AD—one that balances innovation, ethics, and accountability to strengthen resilience and safeguard NCI against emerging security challenges.
