Abstract

The dissertation examines unbuilding as the planned subtraction of urban fabric. It explores its theoretical development, related spatial conditions – disrupted spaces and urban voids – and application models through European case studies. The research argues that carefully calibrated subtractive practices can be creative tools for urban transformation, especially in cities facing overbuilding, spatial degradation, or inadequate spatial management.
