Guidelines for Authors
PUBLISHING ARTICLES IN ŠUMARSKI LIST
In print continously since 1877, the journal Šumarski list is a diamond open access, peer-reviewed, international, bimonthly, print and online journal. Šumarski list publishes articles in the fields of forestry, urban forestry and nature protection, with a geographic focus on Europe and the Mediterranean. The journal welcomes manuscripts for publication in the following categories: original scientific papers, review articles, preliminary communications, short communications, professional papers, book reviews, social news and announcements.
The journal follows the guidelines for code of conduct recommended by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Submission of a manuscript implies that it has not been submitted for publication elsewhere or published before and that the publication is approved by all co-authors and by the authorities of the institution where the research has been carried out. Submitted manuscripts will be checked for plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
The scientific and professional papers will be subject to a thorough review by at least two selected reviewers. The Editorial Board shall make the choice of reviewers, as well as the decision about the classification of the paper and its acceptance (based on the reviewers’ recommendations). All accepted papers are subject to proofreading. The editors will require authors to modify the text in the light of the recommendations made by the reviewers and lector, and they reserve the right to suggest abbreviations and text improvements. Authors are fully responsible for the content of their contributions. It shall be assumed that the author has obtained the permission for the reproduction of portions of text published elsewhere, and that the publication of the paper in question does not infringe upon any individual or corporate rights. Papers shall report on true scientific or technical achievements.
Current issues and archive of Šumarski list is entirely and freely available online on https://www.sumari.hr/sumlist, permitting any users to download, print, further distribute, read and reuse it with no limits provided that the author(s) and the original source are identified in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY). The authors retain their copyrights.
Scientific and professional papers shall be precise and concise. The main chapters should be characterized by appropriate headings. Footnotes should not be used, information should be integrated into the text. Italicize only the names of genera, species and lower taxonomic units. The nomenclature of taxa and syntaxa has to be in strict accordance with international rules (codes). Introduction should define the problem, clearly state the aims of the article and its relation to other papers on the same subject. Materials and methods should be as precise as possible to enable other scientists to repeat the research. Results should involve only material pertinent to the subject. Discussion should interpret the results relating to the problem outlined in Introduction and to related observations by the author(s) or other researchers. Repeating the data already presented in the Results chapter should be avoided. Implications for further studies or application may be discussed. Discussion and conclusion may, if desired by authors, be combined into one chapter. Acknowledgements are presented at the end of the paper, before references.
The number of tables and figures shall be limited to those absolutely necessary for clarification of the text. The same information must not be presented in both a table and a figure. Figures and tables should be numbered separately with Arabic numerals, and should be referred to in the text with clear remarks (Table 1, Figure 1). All tables and figures shall be inserted into the text in their original format. Tables and figures should contain all the information necessary to be understandable without reference to the text (authors should provide enough information in captions and explain all abbreviations). Figures should be of 300 dpi resolution, in JPG, PGN or TIFF format. Tables and figures are published in colour free of charge.
The paper will be sent to the corresponding author in PDF format before printing. The paper should be carefully corrected and sent back with the list of corrections made.
