Author Guidelines

The International Journal for Engineering Modelling uses OJS as an online application for processing the submitted papers and the overall process of publishing scientific research.

Fees/Charges

The International Journal for Engineering Modelling is an open-access journal with no submission, reviewing or publication fees for authors. The authors receive a printed copy of the journal issue featuring the paper, free of charge. In case the authors want more than one copy, the full price for each subsequent copy has to be paid, in addition to the postage costs.

The annual subscription rate is 110 Euros for Europe; 55 Euros for Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro; and 150 Euros for overseas countries.

Types of Paper

  1. The original scientific paper contains unpublished results of original research with its methodology presented in such a way that it can be replicated, and the results obtained are of the same accuracy as those of the authors (or within the predicted deviations), i.e. the author's observations, analyses, calculations, or theoretical conclusions can be reproduced and thus, recognized as scientific knowledge.
  2. Preliminary communication is a research paper that contains one or more scientific findings that require urgent publication but not the detailed elaboration that would allow repetition or verification of the results. Reaction or response papers may also fall into this category provided they contain elements that can be considered contributions to the research.
  3. A review paper is a scientific research paper that contains a detailed review of specific types of engineering problems or an overview of an entire area based on an analysis of already published contributions and papers. Data that have contributed to problem-solving or the development of the treated area or other areas where they are not commonly used or even neglected need to be included in the paper. It is advisable that recognised scientists, experts in the field, write this type of paper.
  4. A professional paper deals with specific engineering topics. Authors present the findings obtained by applying scientific and professional achievements to a particular problem to expand the existing knowledge and align the scientific research achievements with practical needs.

Before the Submission

Ethics in Publishing

Authors are required to accept the Statement of Publishing Ethics for Authors when submitting a paper to a journal. The statement covers authorship, originality, and conflict of interest and includes the following principles:

  • The submitted manuscript is original, and the third-party sources are cited appropriately. Contributors who have made substantive intellectual contributions to a paper are given credit as authors and must be designated co-authors.
  • The corresponding author represents the other authors and must obtain their permission to submit the paper. It is necessary to confirm that the same content or the topic of the paper has not been published in other journals (the paper published in the proceedings of a scientific or professional conference is also a publication), nor is it currently considered by another journal.
  • Authors must list any possible conflicts of interest (financial or other) that may have affected the preparation or the results of the paper. All funding sources must be declared.

Preparation of Manuscripts

The paper is submitted in electronic version, in MS Word and PDF format. When submitting a paper, all figures, tables, and diagrams must be placed in the body of the text. In case of acceptance, these components will be sent as separate documents.

Authors need to submit papers through an online submission system. It will allow faster and more efficient paper processing.

The title of the paper must be on the front page (no more than eight words); surnames and initials for the first and middle names (preferably the full name of the first authors); affiliation(s) of author(s); name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address of the correspondent author; abstract; keywords (5-7 words).

The paper needs to be organized into chapters and, if necessary, subchapters. The manuscript must be written with 1.5 line spacing, on A4 paper with 25 mm margins on each side, in one column, and with left alignment. All pages must be numbered, starting with the title page as the front page. Place the tables and figures as near as possible to the place where they are first referred to. All tables and figures must be titled and referenced in the paper. Images (drawings, diagrams, photographs, etc.) can be black and white or in color in JPG, TIFF, or BMP format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Vector graphics obtained by various programs (AutoCad, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, Freehand, Visio, etc.) must be converted to common vector (WMF, EMF, SVG) or raster formats (JPG, TIFF, or BMP) with size fitted to article  format. Photos must be supplied in a suitable resolution (min. 300 dpi). The SI system of units is used to display dimensional results. All symbols used must be defined on the first mention in the text or in the nomenclature list at the beginning of the paper. References are placed at the end of the paper, never in the form of footnotes. They are marked in chronological order as they appear in the text. Use square brackets and numbers to quote within the body of the text: [1], [2,3], or [4-6]. References are formatted according to the following examples: [1] paper in a journal, [2] book, [3] chapter in a book, [4] paper in conference proceedings, [5] report, [6] web address, [7] computer program.

Changes to authorship

If you want to add, remove, or change the order of the authors of a paper accepted for publication:

  • Before online publication: The corresponding author must contact the Editor-in-Chief and explain the reasons for the requested change and the signed consent of all co-authors. The paper will not be published until everyone agrees on the requested changes.
  • After online publication: The requested changes are taken into consideration using the same principles as in the previous case resulting in a correction of the online edition.
  • After printing: Changes are not possible.

Role of the funding source

Authors must identify all those who provided financial support for conducting research and/or preparing the paper and briefly describe the sponsors' role in the research study design, in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting the results, in writing reports, and in deciding to submit the paper for publication. If the funding sources played no role, this should be stated as well.

Language

Papers should be written in good English, grammatically correct, logical, and understandable. If the manuscript is incomprehensible, it will be rejected. Avoid typing errors by having at least two more people read the paper before submitting it.

Reviewers

The authors are invited to suggest three potential reviewers, providing their names and addresses, suitable to conduct a peer review process without any conflict of interest. These reviewers must not work in the same institution as the authors and preferably come from different countries.

After the review

All changes must be implemented according to reviewers' recommendations and comments and within the given deadline. Revised manuscripts are submitted in two MS Word documents: a marked-up copy with all the changes made to the original manuscript marked in red, and a clean copy of the revised manuscript that does not show any changes. At this stage of manuscript processing, it is necessary to submit a cover letter containing detailed responses to all the reviewers' comments and suggestions, listed point by point as addressed. Partial and incomplete responses to the reviewers' comments, and possibly editors, will not be considered sufficient and may result in paper rejection.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
