Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted for publication in the journal must comply with the following technical requirements:

1. STRUCTURE OF THE MANUSCRIPT

a) Introductory synopsis and keywords

The manuscript must include an introductory synopsis accompanied by a list of keywords. The synopsis must not exceed ten lines. The list of keywords may contain no more than five words or terms.

b) Main text

The manuscript must not exceed 32 standard pages (576,000 characters).

c) Abstract

The abstract must not exceed one standard page of text.

2. LANGUAGE OF THE MANUSCRIPT

Manuscripts written in Croatian or English are accepted.

3. FONT SIZE AND STYLE, LINE SPACING AND TEXT ALIGNMENT

a) MAIN TEXT (SYNOPSIS, BODY OF THE MANUSCRIPT AND ABSTRACT)

  • Font: Times New Roman

  • Font size: 12 pt

  • Line spacing: 1.5

b) FOOTNOTES

  • Font: Times New Roman

  • Font size: 10 pt

  • Line spacing: 1.0

Both the main text and footnotes must be justified.

4. FOOTNOTES

a) BOOKS (TEXTBOOKS, MONOGRAPHS, EDITED VOLUMES) AND ARTICLES

When a source is cited in a footnote for the first time, full bibliographic details must be provided, including the author's surname and first name, the title of the source (in italics), the publisher, the place of publication and the year of publication.

For subsequent references to the same source, it is sufficient to provide the author's surname, the year of publication and the relevant page number.

Whenever an author refers to a particular source, the exact page number supporting the reference must be indicated.

b) ELECTRONIC SOURCES

When citing electronic sources, footnotes must include the exact URL where the material was accessed, together with the date of access.

c) LEGAL ACTS

When citing legal acts, the reference must identify the number of the official gazette in which the act was published.

5. ANONYMIZATION GUIDELINES

To ensure the integrity of the blind peer review process, submissions should ensure that the identities of authors and reviewers remain concealed from one another. Authors, editors, and reviewers (when uploading documents as part of the review process) should follow the steps below regarding the relevant text and file properties:

  • Authors should remove their names from the manuscript and use "Author" and the year in citations and footnotes instead of author names, article titles, etc.

  • Authors should remove personal information from their files by following these steps:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows:

    • Go to File

    • Select Info

    • Click Check for Issues

    • Click Inspect Document

    • In the dialog box, select the checkboxes for the types of hidden content you wish to inspect.

    • Click Remove All

    • Click Close

    • Save the document

  • Microsoft Word for macOS:

    • Go to Tools

    • Click Protect Document

    • Select Remove personal information from this file on save

    • Click OK and save the filE

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • I confirm that the manuscript has not been submitted for publication or published in any other journal.

  • I confirm that the manuscript complies with the Author Guidelines.

  • I accept the copyright policies of Zagreb Law Review, including the author's warranties, the granting of rights to exploit the copyrighted work, responsibility for third-party rights, the jurisdiction of the competent court in Zagreb, and the obligation to sign an agreement on the exploitation of the copyrighted work if the manuscript is accepted for publication.

This section includes scholarly and professional articles in the field of law.

Copyright Notice

By submitting a manuscript for publication, the author accepts the rules of Zagreb Law Review concerning copyright and the exploitation of copyrighted works, which include the following obligations on the part of the author:

  • Warranting that the author is the author of the manuscript submitted for publication.

  • Warranting that the author has neither submitted the manuscript for publication nor published it in any other journal.

  • Granting the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, an exclusive, territorially and temporally unrestricted right to exploit the copyrighted work, including the right of reproduction in any form, distribution, making the work available to the public, inclusion of the work in electronic databases, and adaptation of the work.

  • Warranting that no third-party rights exist in relation to the manuscript and undertaking to protect the Faculty against any claims that third parties may bring against it in connection with the exploitation of the manuscript submitted for publication.

  • Accepting the jurisdiction of the competent court in Zagreb for the resolution of disputes.

If the manuscript is accepted for publication in Zagreb Law Review, the author will be required to sign an agreement on the exploitation of the copyrighted work incorporating the provisions set out above.
