Author Guidelines

Only the papers written and prepared in accordance with Submission guidelines will be considered for publication in CJE.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Croatian Journal of Education publishes research and professional papers which directly or indirectly reflect the topics related to academic theoretical and applied disciplines both in Croatia and abroad. The editorial board strives to make CJE a place where scientists from different disciplines are able to publish the results of their scientific research as well as professional and theoretical studies closely related to education.

Papers in the Croatian Journal of Education are published in both the English and Croatian language, without illustrations or references in the Croatian version.

Paper acceptance procedure

The editor-in-chief reads all submitted papers and assigns a general priority level. Papers are compared to the aim, standard and the concept of the journal, followed by the preliminary review of methodology and a double blind review. After the review procedure, the papers are returned to the authors with reviewers’ suggestions for improvement, or they are rejected. The editorial board members read the revised paper and, provided adequate improvements have been made, select it for publication according to its categorization.

  • Papers have to be previously unpublished and they cannot be under consideration for publication in other journals; however, if the paper has been submitted elsewhere, the editorial board of the Croatian Journal of Education should be notified.
  • The submission file should be in Open Office or Microsoft Word document file format.
  • Where available, URL links appearing in the text should be enabled.
  • The text of the paper should be edited in accordance with the Submission Guidelines.

The decision regarding publication will be made by the editorial board after considering the reviewers’ recommendations. The editorial board is under no obligation to provide justification of its decision regardless of whether the paper has been accepted or rejected.

The accepted language for the categorized papers is English, with the Croatian translation (without illustrations). Authors are obliged to submit the paper in both languages and they take full responsibility for the quality of the translated text. Authors who do not abide by these stipulations are offered a translation for a fee based on the market price of 20€ per standard page. The fee is paid after the paper has been accepted and before its publication. Standard page size is 1,800 characters with spaces. Proofreading is provided for all well-prepared texts. All prices include VAT.

Copyright and Licensing

Copyright fees are generally defined only for the requested papers, in accordance with the corresponding regulations. After submitting their paper for publication in Croatian Journal of Education, authors accept, without additional conditions, the regulations according to which their papers will be published in the journal, as well as the publication of the paper in full or partially on the Croatian Journal of Education web site, i.e. the web site of the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb and other related electronic portals. By submitting their papers to Croatian Journal of Education, authors accept the above-mentioned conditions. Authors retain copyright of their work unless otherwise specified by the journal’s publishing policy. By submitting a manuscript, authors grant the journal the right to publish and distribute the accepted work in accordance with the journal’s licensing and open-access policy.

Authors retain copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication.

Permissions and consent

The authors confirm that copies of all permissions for reproducing the published material, using illustrations, presenting information about identifiable individuals or naming individuals for their contributions have been submitted with the manuscript. All used research instruments must be legally obtained; in other words, authors are required to present written consent from the copyright holder, publisher or author, granting them the right to use the instrument.

Conflict of interest

All participants in the publication process – authors, reviewers and editors – are required to disclose all actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence the evaluation, interpretation or publication of the manuscript. In the event of a conflict of interest, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure an impartial editorial process.

Submitted manuscripts can be checked using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts containing evidence of plagiarism, improper citation practices or significant overlap with previously published material may be rejected or returned to the authors for clarification.

Corrections and withdrawals

The journal is dedicated to preserving the accuracy and integrity of the scientific record. If necessary, the journal can publish: corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern or withdrawals. Retractions may be issued in cases of serious ethical misconduct, plagiarism, falsification of data, double publication or major errors that invalidate the findings of the paper.

Ethical violation

The editorial board will investigate allegations of unethical behaviour. If a violation is confirmed, the journal reserves the right to reject manuscripts, withdraw published articles, inform competent institutions and take other appropriate editorial measures.

Content powered by artificial intelligence

Authors must disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence tools in manuscript preparation. Artificial intelligence tools should not be listed as authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity or originality of scientific work. Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal.

Reviewers

Before publication, each paper undergoes peer review. Each submitted paper is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers, all of whom are prominent scientists in their field of research and independently evaluate the submitted papers. Reviewers are generally not compensated, but the journal keeps records of successful review procedures for each reviewer individually. Reviewers can obtain statistical data on completed reviews at any time for the purpose of their scientific advancement.

Citations and references

When other people’s syntagms, ideas, data, terms, etc. are cited, the source should be given in the text and not in the footnotes. References are given in brackets and should contain the author’s surname, year of publication and, in the case of a verbatim quotation, page number (e.g., Rossi & Cassidy, 1999, p. 24; Vilke, 1993, p. 23). If the referenced work has more than two authors, both the first time and in subsequent citations only the surname of the first author should be included, followed by et al. and the year of publication (e.g., Pastuović et al., 2003, p. 35), except where this would create ambiguity. When paraphrasing, the author’s name should be written, and the year of publication given in brackets (e.g., Horvat (2001) claims that; Zarevski and Tominac (2008) maintain...). The reference list at the end of the paper (References) should include full information about all the works that are referred to in the paper, in alphabetical order according to the author’s surname (the works of the same author should be listed chronologically), in Latin alphabet. Furthermore, the publisher’s location is excluded from the reference list. The titles in the reference list need to be given in the language of the original, and their English translation should be given in square brackets []. When electronic sources are referenced, the exact web site from which the information was retrieved has to be stated and active links (hyperlinks) enabled. DOIs are formatted the same as URLs. URLs are not preceded by „Retrieved from“, unless a retrieval date is needed. The website’s name is included (unless it’s the same as the author’s).
